The Hamilton Music Collective: Jazz uniting the community

Check out this website of my sister-in-law's, Astrid Hepner is using music and her background in jazz as a tool to unite the community of Hamilton Ontario. My brother also features prominently in this work. Most interesting to note is her creation of the "An Instrument for Every Child," program that strives to bring music and professional musicans to school classrooms and instruments into the hands of city children. "Jazz in the Hubs," is a great example of that and can also been seen on their website.

TD High School Jazz Intensive
STUDENTS! AUDITION FOR THE TD HIGH SCHOOL JAZZ INTENSIVE

The TD High School Jazz Intensive offers students a chance to:

• Play in a select big band conducted by jazz master flutist/composer Nicole Mitchell
• Learn and rehearse a broad range of jazz repertoire
• Participate in workshops led by some of the world's finest musicians
• Receive tickets to selected Jazz Festival shows
• Perform in the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival!

The TD High School Jazz Intensive takes place June 24 to July 3, 2011 and is open by audition to students in grade 10, 11, and 12 in the BC Lower Mainland: Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Abbotsford, Anmore, Belcarra, Bowen Island, Coquitlam, Delta, Langley, Lions Bay, Maple Ridge, New Westminster, Pitt Meadows, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Surrey, White Rock, Agassiz, Aldergrove, Chilliwack, Fort Langley, Fraser Valley, Harrison Hot Springs, Mission, Yale, Squamish.
